The Top Board Games in 2024

The start of the year is usually a quiet time for tabletop game releases. The arrival usually comes with the summer convention season and continues through the holidays. Even though we are in changing phase, a few exciting new top board games have arisen.

1. DUNE: WAR FOR ARRAKIS

Dune: War of Arrakis is a game where it keeps the players engrossed in a two-hour intense battle for control of Arrakis. One player is given the task to play the role of Harkonnens, while the other player takes the charge of Atreides.

Players will collect spice with harvesters, deploy troops such as the Fremen and Sardaukar, and will work on to fulfill ancient prophecies.

Like the previous creation of Marco Maggi and Francesco Nepitello’s, War of the Ring, this game Dune: War of Arrakis is mostly asymmetrical.

Similar to Lord of the Rings saga, Dune: War for Arrakis gives a deeply immersive experience, giving out dramatic scenes of those in the novel.

Maximum four players in a team setup can play, but this game is mainly designed for two players. The releasing day of the game is so perfectly timed with the new film and making a outstanding appearance on the table, such as Fremen riding Shai-Hulud.

2. Gloomhaven: Buttons & Bugs

“Gloomhaven meets Honey, I Shrunk the Kids” is quite high-quality premise. In Gloomhaven: Buttons & Bugs, a single player who has been shortened in height takes the charge as a hero and must find a way to reverse the spell.

The curse can only be removed by one and only Hail, the Aesther recluse, is known from the original Gloomhaven storyline. Players have to go through insects and other hurdles while playing, which will force them to go for success or break the curse before even they get the chance to show their heroic power.

In starting Gloomhaven spinoff was a fan made print known as Gloomholdin, later it went for development and then re-released officially as Cephalofair Games.

It is not so expensive, compact game and a single player can play it and enjoy it completely. Its smaller scale does affect its fun experience and manages to capture essence of Gloomhaven.
