In Black Myth: Wukong Chapter 5, players’ journey progresses through a linear, yet challenging level, Golden Child, Crimson Blood, set in the Flaming Mountains and especially Wukong.
It’s simple enough when compared to previous chapters, but you need to prepare yourself mindlessly against flame-based enemies and status effects. This story introduces the Bull King and his family, and a handful of fierce bosses including three from optional Bishui Cave.
1. Woods of Ember Walkthrough
The chapter starts out in the Woods of Ember, where you’ll be battling Revenants which means players have at least Body-Cooling Powder or the Fireproof Mantle Vessel to prevent flame damage. You unlock the “Ashen Pass I” Shrine after fighting with Zhu Bajie.
Soon you come to Pale-Axe Stalwart locked in combat. Nearly doing the same, he reveals a crucial element about the five Element Carts, and you must defeat these five Element Carts to continue.
The first cart, Brown-Iron Cart, is just out of Pale-Axe Stalwart. This sentient wagon is menacing, striking with flames and fireballs, you must hit its wheels for damage.
After you’ve been beaten, you make your way to the “Ashen Pass II” Shrine where you meet Pingping Fox, the Bull King’s daughter, then you head down into Furnace Valley.
2. Furnace Valley Walkthrough
Your Fireproof Mantle will be so crucial because Furnace Valley is covered in lava. As mid-point you can veer left inside the lava at the entrance to this valley to find a hidden boss Flint Chief.
Flint Chief shares the same small moveset as previous rock Yaoguai Chiefs from Chapter 2, so dodging its magma attacks and relying on big hits will lead to victory.
You will also see an Element Cart with a whip buried inside of it. You pull the whip a few times and you see your old ally, Ma Tianba. However, going through the chapter and returning to this spot will allow you to get the Dark Thunder Transformation, that’ll give you powerful lightning-based powers.
Cloudy Mist and Misty Cloud are a duo of Guai bosses, the first you’ll weigh down in as you progress further up the valley. In alternating turns fight these two, and once one is defeated, the other gets more aggressive. Defeating them will open up the “Rakshasa Palace” Shrine.
3. Field of Fire Walkthrough
Located in the Field of Fire is the “Ashen Pass III” Shrine. On a quick detour you can find an optional boss fight with Nine-Capped Lingzhi Guai, an enemy that will throw its hat as a weapon. After you defeat it, search around for The Crag Meditation Spot.
Progress off the main path becomes difficult, returning to the path. If they use the side alcoves, you can’t get scratched by the ball. Part of the path is blocked by a wall of fire; it will be opened later in the chapter.
You’ll make your way to the “Fallen Furnace Crater” Shrine, after another cutscene with Pingping Fox. From here you can turn around and fight the Flint Vanguard boss, with challengers alongside him.
By defeating the Rusty-Gold Cart here the Bishui Cave will open.
4. Bishui Cave Walkthrough
Three boss battles are available in secret Bishui Cave. One of the first is Baw-Lang-Lang a giant frog that should look familiar if you’ve fought other frog type bosses in the game.
Once you’ve beaten Baw-Lang-Lang, you’ll come up against Top Takes Bottom and Bottom Takes Top, sneaking left to right and vice versa through the goop of fire that makes you nervous beforehand. When they’re low on health, they go in and out of the ball taking turns hiding in it, making it impossible to land hits.
Once you get the better of this pair, you can claim their Spirit — which raises the rate at which you can break an enemy’s poise when at full upgrade. Try to visit the cave’s Shrines and Meditation Spots.
5. Fallen Furnace Crater
The chapter ends with a fight against Red Boy, a mischievous demon who commands the events of the chapter home to the “Fallen Furnace Crater” Shrine.
His attacks comprise both ranged and melee moves. Immobilizing techniques such as He Wu’s Art of the ancient Demon will stagger him, or the Yellow Loong’s Golden Lining Transformation is itself an immobilizing ability.
But this is only the half of it, for after beating Red Boy he turns into the Yaksha King. This boss uses the two flame blades to inflict a field of spikes in this battlefield, but with intense electric guitar music playing in the background for atmosphere, this boss is a very powerful one.
The key to winning is to avoid taking his attacks and keep the offensive. Zhu Bajie lends a hand shortly during the battle, but it’s entirely up to the player to determine how the fight turns out.
Conclusion
Black Myth: Wukong Chapter 5 is a linear but action-packed journey through areas, infernal boss fights, and a massive lore. The bosses in Ni No Kuni being seriously challenging, with the hidden challenge being Bishui Cave and being able to defeat the bosses you have to be patient, strategize and prepare along the way.
A nice closing to this chapter as well as a setup for the exciting things to come in future chapters. Take care to utilize all Shrines and Transformation abilities well, as some of the strait is narrow, and none of what’s ahead will be kind.
